Title: Philosophical bias in science and medicine

Abstract

All sciences come with a number of philosophical basic implicit assumptions, what we call ‘philosophical bias’. Such biases are typically adopted tacitly through education and choice of scientific methods. When disciplines meet, any tension in basic assumptions will represent a barrier for genuine interdisciplinarity. At NMBU we therefore teach our Master students about philosophical bias as part of their science education. In the CauseHealth project, we have focused specifically on philosophical biases in medicine and health sciences, specifically about complexity, causality, probability and risk.
